Hippie-Light
So navigating this whole "birth" thing has been quite the process so far. Although we still have several months until the big event, I've been doing a lot of research on what type of birth plan we want. I know a few people may think we're crazy, but I'm really looking into having the most "natural" birth possible. We've chosen to go with a midwife instead of a traditional OB/GYN and are thrilled that we were able to find one within the practice I already go to. No, we're not doing a home birth or that whole water thing, I'm just looking for someone that will hopefully be more likely to support me in having a natural child birth. It's been so interesting to talk to people about their birth experience and the fact that I'm really geared towards going as drug free as possible. The thought of all of the modern medical interventions totally freaks me out. People have been having babies for thousands of years right? So I figure why not try to let nature do what it was intended to do.
I told Clay as soon as we found out we were pregnant we were going to raise a few eyebrows with our goals for having the baby. I know that in the heat of the moment I could always change my mind, but I really want this to be the goal we work toward. We're taking classes at the local birth place, we have the midwife, and this week we start interviewing doulas. (Personal birth coaches/assistants.) Although I haven't totally decided that I want one, I've had a few people suggest that they're great, especially for first time moms that are interested in a more "natural" birth, and research even shows that women who use them have lower use of drugs and medical interventions. A few people think we're crazy *cough, Daddo, cough* but several have been really supportive. I think that everyone has there own birth plan, but as my midwife says, if you can check your mind at the door, the whole process will be so much easier.
In other baby news, we have our next appointment on Monday the 20th, which will also include the big mid-preggo ultrasound. Clay will get to go to this one since he missed the first one. I am really just gearing up to see if everything is "ok" with the baby, and if it shows, whether it's a boy or a girl. But at the end of the day, above finding that out, I'm just wanting to check on how everything is progressing.
This week really sets off the full holiday mode since I get the privilege of making pizza and Christmas cookies with Miss Mandy and Miss Michelle this week. I can't believe Christmas is so close and that I'm actually able to enjoy it this year! (Thank heaven for no retail management!)
Happy Holidays everyone!
